Group Classes: Text

Cello Champs

With Daphne

Our Cello Champs will focus on reading notes as letters rather than numbers and correlating note names to the fingers we use to play through games and activities both online and in a personalized booklet.

We will learn new music, and listen to and watch performances by some of the great and innovative cellists from past and present; including Jacqueline du Pre, Yo-Yo Ma, Cris Derksen, Leyla McCalla and more! Open to current Sistema Kingston cellists.

Advanced Upper Strings

With Erika

This class is for violinists and violists who have already been playing their instruments for a while. We will focus on learning fun new music together, improving our note reading skills, and preparing for ensemble playing! Open to current Sistema Kingston violinists and violists.

Singing Group Class

With Ariel

In this class we will learn some new songs, play Poison Melody among other singing games and have some fun singing together on Zoom!

If you have ever wanted to write your own song, gain inspiration to create music and have lots of fun, this is the class for you! Join Ariel to learn how to write a song (which you can either share with the group or keep to yourself!)

What Makes it Great?

With Sean

“What makes it great?” is a dive into different genres of music including classical, jazz, pop, and non-western music. We will explore students’ favourite music, as well as discover new sounds from all over the world. Students will describe what they like about music, using the elements of music.  Open to all students, no experience required.

Drumming Connections

With Yessica

Drumming Connections with Yessica is grounded in solidarity, harmony, and mutual compassion. In these sessions, participants learn about songs and rhythms from around the world. These sessions allow the choice of using drums at home, body percussion, make your own drum, or use pots and pans! Open to all students, no experience required.

The Building Blocks of Music: Theory!

With Sean

To help us learn how music works, we will learn about the elements of music theory, such as notation, keys, harmony, orchestration, rhythm and more. Open to our experienced Sistema Kingston students.

Beginner Upper Strings

With Erika

If you’ve never played the violin or viola before, or even if you’ve never heard of the violin or viola but are excited to try something new, this class is for you! We’ll be starting from the very beginning with the names of all the instrument parts, how to hold the instrument, how to care for the instrument, and of course how to play the instrument! Open to new students, no experience required.

Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) Class

With Sean

A DAW is a computer-based way of making music. Using synthesizers, drum machines, samplers, and recording our own voices and instruments, we will compose new songs, arrange and re-mix familiar tunes, and create sick beats! Open to experienced Sistema Kingston students in grade 6 and higher.
